Ever the resourceful I thought to myself what is the best free program that would allow the quick and easy remove/replacement of accents from any filename. The program I found was Bulk Rename Utility.
Below are some images to highlight the option to use to replace accents with standard characters which highlights in green the outcome prior to committing the rename of the files.
a) First and example of the different accent characters in *.txt files, renamed to standard characters using BRU.
b) Applying the same technique to a typical set of mp3 files, where the filename utilises accented Characters.
I appreciate that a mp3 tagging program will probably do the same but the beauty of BRU is it can be used on many different file types and in many many different situations and therefore thought it worth bringing to the attention of Nokia 770, OS 2006 users and promoting in my blog.
I could not find a similar program in a GUI for MAC or Linux PC's, please do offer suggestions if you are aware of any.

I haet to state the obvious but a bug should be reported against Canola and this should be fixed within Canola, not by having users rename their files!
Anonymous, Of course I do agree if the problem is indeed only with the Canola application. However the snippet of information I received was that the issue was with underlying OS2006/OS2007 and may not be easily fixable.
So...With this issue in mind I thought is sensible to find and offer the Nokia 770 users who are generally otherwise happy with their Nokia 770's a way to enjoy the latest version of Canola with any media files. (even if it's only a temp measure where we can always rename quickly the file names using the relevant accented id3 tags and an ID3 tagging program)

I also hate to state the not so obvious, but the bug is not in Canola, but in the Dbus version that doesn't support the other characters.
It was indeed reported to the owners (Nokia) and fixed, but on a new OS (chinook) thus killing the chance of having it solved on 770 and N800 with BORA.
We indeed now the bug, We actually told Mike and he wanted to help.
So we did our best, but there's no way we are going to change the whole architecture because of one bug that is fixed in new versions of that component.
